Chemical in-place cleaning of plate heat exchangers

Undismountable heat exchangers

The structure of welded undismountable plate heat exchangers consists of plate pack enclosed in an all-metal body. Channels for working environments are welds. Such heat exchangers are used in cases when:

  • heat exchanger surfaces are not contaminated during operation;
  • maintenance requires only chemical cleaning, without disassembling for flushing;
  • operating conditions require increased efficiency and reliability;
  • folding heat exchangers cannot be used due to inconsistencies in its performance and conditions.

Among the features of plate heat exchangers, it is necessary to note the creation of absolute tightness and almost complete absence of pressure loss at the outlet, which is ensured by a one-piece casing and the absence of rubber seals.

For many years ASGARD-Service Company engaged in the maintenance, flushing and repair of heat exchangers of various types (undismountable, folding). Our specialists are highly qualified and have great practical experience, which allows them to carry out equipment maintenance efficiently and quickly.

Parts of heat exchange units wear out during operation, which leads to poor performance. This is due to the fact that when the equipment is working, large-scale sediment particles penetrate its working parts. In addition, since the quality of water preparation is usually poor, the microorganisms’ waste products and various salts (magnesium, calcium) will certainly be deposited on the internal surfaces of the heat exchangers. When reducing the performance of heat exchange equipment, the first thing to do is to prevent and clean it.

Cleaning of heat exchangers is usually carried out before the start of heating season. Otherwise, equipment failures and major accidents that lead to large time and material costs during its elimination are not excluded. Specialists of ASGARD-Service Company will help to clean your heat exchanger using both in-place and folding methods. Each of these methods has its advantages.

Flushing of heat exchange equipment without disassembling

Such flushing in certain cases is especially effective. First of all, it is necessary for heat exchangers of plate, brazed and welded types. In this case, the heating plates are cleaned without replacing the sealing elements and without disassembling the structure itself. During the events, our specialists use special installations consisting of a pump, a tank for chemical solutions, a system of hoses and filters. As for the reagents, in each case they are selected individually. They contain acids (organic, inorganic) that help remove both lime and various biological organisms from the unit. We use exclusively those chemical reagents that have the appropriate certification issued by the sanitary and epidemiological authorities.

If we talk about how to act in practice, then for flushing the heat exchange equipment, special compositions from manufacturing plants or those developed by specialized organizations are usually used. Under the action of such compositions, iron oxides and carbonates are dissolved very quickly.

Flushing chemical solutions must have a high temperature to ensure the effectiveness of the procedure. Carrying out the flushing and cleaning of the equipment without disassembling, our specialists comply with all safety requirements, because during such work it is very important not to allow personnel to receive chemical and thermal burns.

Carried out chemical flushing of the plate heat exchanger ensures the restoration of the full performance of the equipment. On this basis, we can rightfully say that flushing of unit without disassembling, in terms of its efficiency, can replace capital repairs, and financially helps to save considerable funds.

Flushing without disassembly is the cheapest, easiest and fastest method, suitable for servicing heat exchangers of various types (brazed, plate, etc.). Among the advantages of this approach, it is worth noting:

  • low cost, especially when cleaning large equipment;
  • low labor costs, which significantly affects the speed of flushing activities (especially if large units are cleaned);
  • no need to replace seals in plate heat exchangers.

Among the disadvantages, experts note, as a rule, only one:

  • sometimes deposits are not entirely removed, mainly it concerns mechanical inclusions and scale after installation activities.
