Air-pulse flushing of heating systems
Contamination in heating systems and its individual elements, batteries and piping, is mainly due to the water used during heat transfer, especially when the hot heat carrier moves through the pipes. Often, a chemical reaction occurs between the material from which the inner surfaces of the system elements are made, and the liquid used. Such reactions lead to scaling.
A very serious problem is the poor quality of the water circulating through the system. This cause leads to rust, as well as sediment and organic deposits. Therefore, flushing of heating systems installed in private homes should be treated as an extremely important event.
The decrease in heat transfer is associated with rust, deposits and sediments and its sedimentation on the surface of the walls in the elements of the systems. With the formation of scab with a thickness of more than 8-9 millimeters on the inner surfaces of radiators and pipes, the efficiency of heat supply systems decreases to 40 percent. In addition, due to the presence of sediment, the life of structures is reduced, due to an increase in its degree of wear.
Depending on the appearance, it is impossible to determine the need for flushing of radiators and pipes included in the heating system. But it is quite simple to determine the presence of scab on the inner surfaces of the elements.
There are several definite signs of the presence of scab on the inner surface and the need for flushing of heating systems installed in private homes:
- The system warms up significantly longer;
- The work of the heat generator is accompanied by extraneous noises;
- The lower part of the radiator is cold and the top is warm;
- The battery stays completely cold even with hot liner;
- When using an electric boiler, there is a significant increase in power consumption.

For the destruction of deposits that accumulate in heating units and connecting pipelines, a shock-wave system is used that is created in liquids flowing in the cleaned heating systems and removed with the help of this liquid. In order to organize a system of shock waves, the effect of an air pulse compressed with a high pressure on the surface of the liquid is used (Fig. 1).
The equipment with the help of which air-pulse cleaning is performed in heating systems consists of (see Fig. 1): source of compressed gas 7, air-pulse generator 2 and exhaust cylinder 3 with a separation piston 4, with a capillary hole 5 made in it.
The installation of an air-pulse generator is carried out on the exhaust cylinder (at the inlet). Then, the cylinder output is connected to the heater to be cleaned (with its cavity) 8, connected respectively to the riser 7 by means of a ball valve 9. In the exhaust cylinder there is an opening 6 through which the compressed air produced by the air-pulse generator comes out.
